Al's 40th Surprise Birthday Party!

On Saturday, November 29th, Khaliah of A Boxed Event set up a surprise 40th birthday party for her husband, Al, here at The RiverRoom!

Khalilah of A Boxed Event set up the room and the decorations herself. The colors she chose were black, gold and burnt orange. This was perfect for a bold feel to the room. On top of the tables included simple flower centerpieces. Keeping it simple, the flowers kept with burnt orange and cute vases to match the decorative linens and striped runners. Melissa of Knot Too Shabby Events helped coordinate the event for Khalilah! The sofas and other furniture spread around the room provided by ETC Party Rentals. This definitely made the room comfortable, but kept the party vibe going. There was a cigar bar and specialty cocktails to keep everyone happy.

The theme for the party was "Al's Boardwalk Empire." Brooke from Southern Bee designed and decorated The RiverRoom chalkboard bar with this theme in mind and, as you can see below, it looked amazing!

Around 6pm that day, the party guests arrived to make sure everyone got here before Al.  About 30 minutes later, Khalilah and Al showed up - he was totally surprised!  Al's family all came together all the way from New York for the big birthday! Upon their entrance, Nicole Thompson sang a classic song to get the night started.  Throughout the night, DJ Professionals and Video kept the music going. Then, we enjoyed light bites with The Butler Did It! to come in and provide staffing service for us.

Now, we may have had the coolest cake on earth prepared for this party! Creative Cake Design by Tammy Hodge designed and created a real whiskey-pouring cake! Yes, whiskey actually came out of the spout and the cake was edible and delicious! This was one of the highlights of the the night and everybody was so amazed! 

After dinner and singing "Happy Birthday" to Al, he cut his cake and the floor opened up for a dance party.  Everyone had a wonderful time.  Bonnie Jean Berg did a fantastic job of capturing all of the surprise moments and the feel of the room with her photography.

Surprise parties are always a good time.  Thanks to everyone for keeping it a secret! The RiverRoom loved celebrating with you, Al! Happy 40th Birthday!
