End of Summer Wedding Social

On Saturday, August 24, 2013, The RiverRoom hosted our End of Summer Wedding Social. Our wedding socials are a chance for newly engaged couples to come check out the room and experience it as they would on their actual wedding day! We invited some of our favorite vendors and had a great time seeing some awesome new and old couples.

The room looked absolutely gorgeous thanks to bright aqua, coral and gray linens from Etc. Party Rentals and beautiful floral arrangements from Julia's Florist. Julia's Florist did a variety of arrangements, ranging from short and tall. They also brought in some cool antique lanterns.

A Boxed Event and AbeL - Custom Lounge & Specialty Rentals set up a pretty gold lounge area.

Cindy with Sweetwater Bamboo Beach Wedding Events set up the deck with one of her beautiful bamboo arbors and ottomans.

Carolina Cakes and Confections designed an aqua and white display cake, as well as lots of yummy treats for everyone to try. She served mini banana pudding cups, cookie butter and chocolate cupcakes and s'more tarts.

Lisa Brown of Bella Rose Photography was so nice to photograph the room for us and took all of these amazing images! She is a very talented wedding photographer in town. She was also there to represent her talented photographer husband, Matt McGraw of Matt McGraw Photography

Wendy Reavis is a model/actress in town who offered to come act as our Bride. She was dressed by David's Bridal. David's Bridal supplied the dress, shoes and jewelry! The bride's makeup was done by Melanie Fuller of Kiss & Makeup.

Event Shuttle Service joined the wedding social for the second time this year! They came through at the last minute after another limo company in town fell through the day of! We appreciate Amanda from Event Shuttle Service for not only finding one driver but two drivers within a few hours! Event Shuttle Service rocks!

Wilmington Wine and OneHope Wine was behind the bar providing free beer and wine for our "wedding guests". For those of you who do not know about OneHope Wine, each bottle purchased gives a portion of the proceeds to various cancer organizations to help find a cure. We love supporting such an amazing cause!
Officiant Penelope Morningstar came by to meet and mingle with some of our newly engaged. She is a sweet and kind lady who does a great job for those still looking for an officiant!

The Fuzzy Peach of Wilmington does fro-yo bars at special events so we invited them as well. Mandy and Conor of Fuzzy Peach were here to talk about catering options and give out free samples!

The Audio Visual People hung Edison lights and white Chinese lanterns. Adam from DJ Professionals played great tunes all night! DJ Professionals also had their photo booth set up so we had lots of fun taking goofy pics!

The event was from 6:00pm-8:00pm. For the first hour, most guest walked around trying different foods and meeting all of the vendors. Coastal Catering and Shuckers Grill served food for everyone. Angie's of Chris' Restaurant was unable to physically be here because they had another catering gig but they dropped off some food for us to taste too!
Around 7:30pm, we began our version of the newlywed game. We asked each couple to stand back to back and each was asked a "Who's Who" question like "who's the better driver?" or "who's a better cook?" Couples were eliminated if they gave opposite answers. At the end of the game, we had two couples left! Both final couples were named winners and given a date night wine basket from Whole Foods.

We had a big prize raffle to end the night with lots of prizes from each vendor and prizes from some other local businesses. Here are the names of raffle prize sponsors (besides the participating vendors): silverceiling Makeup Artistry, Tropical Tans, Prima Day Spa, Hiro Japenese Restaurant, Henrietta Riverboat, Jungle Rapids, Wrightsville SUP, The Melting Pot and Whole Foods of Wilmington.

Each guest was given a swag bag at the end of the night with all of our business cards and more free stuff. We had a great turn out with about 50 brides and grooms. Thank you to all of those who attended and all of those who helped make this event such a success. Our next event will be Friday, November 22nd. We'll be hosting a Not Wedding! More details to come!

Until next time... cheers!
