Ideas we love: Lounges

We love when clients have creative ideas to make the space their own! One idea we recently loved was creating a lounge area in front of the bar. Lounge areas make for a nice place for people to gather inside and socialize with a cocktail style setup or as a comfortable spot for guests to sit and relax!

Our clients Jon and Michelle Davis brought in a couch and two love seats with side tables from POMP. They decorated the brick wall with some picture frames and the tables with pictures of them throughout their relationship. The room had been set up to provide seating for all the guests in addition to having the furniture.  You can see more of what Jon and Michelle did with the spaced in our blog post:

The same style of furniture was previously brought in for a bridal shower in 2013 when Jessica, co-owner of POMP hosted a bridal shower for her sister and co-owner, Rebecca, at The RiverRoom Jessica brought in some of their gorgeous sectional couches from the Pomp store located on Kerr Avenue. The room had couches throughout the room opposed to all in one area.

David and Christy Hancock brought in some couches from L&L Tent and Party Rentals (previously etc. Party Rentals) and decorated the area in front of the bar area with the couches, their cake, a personalized monogram light, cocktail tables, and a decorative glass table. They chose to provide seating at tables for some guests and allow the other guests to make use of the lounge area. To see more of what the Hancock’s did to decorate The RiverRoom you can see their blog post:

One couch was brought in for Patrick and Lindsey’s rehearsal dinner. They rented a white couch and put in in one of the corners by the bar area with some cocktail tables. The couple had a slideshow set up in the back of the room for their guests to view from the dinner tables or the lounge area throughout the night. Shay & Xrunn: Wedding Reception 7.23.16

Following their ceremony at St Mary's Church, Shay and Xrunn arrived at The RiverRoom in a horsedrawn carriage for their reception. Their 70 guests arrived in style as well; by a Wilmington Trolley. With Shay's craftiness she learned from being a teacher, and some help from Do Me a Favor Weddings, the room was decked out in adorable decorations.

Tables were decorated with gray linens, with touches of mint green and coral. The centerpieces each included a scrabble word, a lantern, and a picture of the couple. Some tables had birdhouses or flowers to create a cohesive color scheme.

A Thyme Savor served cute appetizer and drink pairings of burger sliders and specialty beers, mini tacos with mini margaritas, and bite sized crab cakes. Dinner included stuffed chicken, mahi-mahi,  gourmet macaroni and cheese, and grilled vegetables.

The key lime flavored teapot cake, cake pops and miniature pies were crafted by the talented Tammy of Creative Cake Design. The details on the cake and around the dessert table really helped bring the room together.

Guests were kept entertained all night long. From dancing to taking silly pictures in the photo booth to playing cornhole and ladderball on the J.W. Brooks deck. They rented the boards from L&L, but gave them a personal touch by photoshopping their faces onto movie posters. How fun?!

Congratulations Shay and Xrunn!

Peach Perfect Rehearsal Dinner: Lucas & Irina 7.15.16

Lucas and Irina, the bride and groom to-be, celebrated a southern rehearsal dinner here at The RiverRoom. They brought 110 of their closest friends and family to The RiverRoom following their Wedding Rehearsal at The Oceanic.

Fresh peaches were found on all of the tables and all around the room. They were such a hit that many of them were nibbled on by the end of the night. However, their guests went home with bellies full of barbecue and comfort food from Casey's Buffet. Casey's provided pork BBQ, fried chicken, chicken pastry, brunswick stew, mac and cheese, cole slaw, hush puppies, collard greens, beans, and homemade rolls.

The groomsmen made peach sangria and peach bourbon, while Casey's Buffet provided their authentic sweet tea and lemonade as well. Beverages were displayed in beehive dispensers to match the nights southern theme.

The peaches were brought in from the farm the groom grew up on, adding such a sweet, personal touch to the rehearsal dinner. In true Southern fashion, the couple sent their guests home with pounds of BBQ and tea.

 Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Meachem!

#HappilyEverTome: Brandi & Alex 6.25.16

With fingers and toes crossed, the rain held off long enough for Brandi and Alex to have a beautiful ceremony on the J.W. Brooks deck of The RiverRoom. The white benches arranged for guests we are nice change from the traditional white chairs.

Following the ceremony, guests came inside The RiverRoom to an elegantly decorated reception. Tables were covered in navy linens, accompanied by gold chiavari chairs. White floral centerpieces really added a fresh pop of color against the dark decor.

Following a buffet style dinner of marinated grilled chicken, pork tenderloin, green beans, squash casserole, bacon wrapped scallops, seasoned potatoes, rice and baked apples, guests enjoyed a couple unique cake flavors. The bride and groom cake of choice was called "Unicorn Breath", which was chocolate and raspberry puree, lavender and honey, as well as vanilla and pink champagne cupcakes.

Adam with My Wedding DJ had guests on their feet dancing all night! Alex was quite the Michael Jackson fan and was not afraid to show off his dance moves. They closed the night with the bouquet and garter toss.

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Tome!

Heather & Shawn: #HappilyEverKling 6.26.16

Heather and Shawn said their vows in the company of their closest friends and family on a Sunday evening on the J.W. Brooks deck of The RiverRoom.

Inside, guests could find numerous activities to keep them entertained and having fun all night long!  They had a selfie station with different hats, masks, and a few selfie sticks. You can't have a selfie station without a clever hashtag #HappilyEverKling! A Wii console was set up in the front of the room and cornhole was out on the deck.

Tables were decorated with sleek black linens, gold placemats and white plates at each seat, while the pink napkins added a nice pop of color. Centerpieces were simple arrangements of white hydrangeas and candles. Their 63 guests enjoyed creamy penne pasta, chicken, and baked ziti from A Taste of Italy.

A Family Affair provided 2 cakes: one classic, with a topper that read "To the Moon & Back" and one humorous cake themed from the cartoon show "Rick and Morty".

Every seat had a chocolate surprise, but only 2 had a lucky Golden Ticket. The DJ called up the lucky winners to do give the Bride and Groom a rather special gift. Each winner got to smash a piece of cake into the Bride and Groom's faces! What a clever and funny idea!

The bride and groom, as well as their guests, ended the night with a beautiful sunset off the Cape Fear River and a little cornhole.

Presenting Mr. & Mrs. Bratcher: Travis and Dionna 6.23.16

Travis and Dionna Bratcher said their vows on a beautiful Thursday morning here at The RiverRoom. The couple have already been officially married, but being stationed overseas in Japan prevented them from having a formal ceremony with friends and family.

The couple had a very intimate ceremony with a special unity candle lighting. The mother of the bride and the mother of the groom lit the two outer candles representing the two families then Travis and Dionna used those candles to light the larger candle in the middle symbolizing the unity of two families into one. The candle reads "This day I will marry my friend, the one I laugh with, live for, dream with. LOVE"

Deep purple with green and white accents was the color scheme of the day. Tables were set with purple napkins, two wine bottles and a table number fixed on top of a wine cork.

A buffet style lunch was set up by ART Catering. Guests enjoyed champagne chicken, crab cakes, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, and green beans.

Following lunch, the bride and groom cut the cake. The purple theme was carried out on the classic wedding cake and display table. We love the personal touch of the "B" cake topper!

How cute are these champagne glasses for Mr. and Mrs. Bratcher?! Near the end of the celebration, guests took turns giving words of wisdom and best wishes to the newlyweds.

Congratulations to Travis and Dionna!

Get Ready... for Mr. and Mrs. Hollifield! 6.17.16

Following their wedding rehearsal Friday evening at The Wilmingtonian Courtyard, Kim and Jacob celebrated dinner with family and friends at The RiverRoom. The rain let up just in time for a beautiful rehearsal dinner!

The room was nautical themed with red linens provided by Party Suppliers. Blue accents incorporated with worn wood, sailing rope & shells gave the room a seaside feel.

Fitting the nautical theme, red linens covered the tables and were set with candles surrounded by shells as well as floral centerpieces set in simplistic wooden boxes.

The bride and groom to-be had, on display, their gifts their wedding party. The bridesmaids dresses were hanging along our brick wall with monogrammed canvas gift bags. The groomsmen's gift bags were a nautical navy blue.

What is a nautical themed rehearsal dinner without an ECU Pirate cake? Tammy Hodge at Creative Cakes did an amazing job!

The soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Hollifield and their 50 guests enjoyed jerk chicken, shrimp, and bbq beef brisket provided by Middle of the Island catering.

Congratulations to Kim and Jacob who will be wed Saturday, June 17 at St. Thomas Preservation Hall!
