April and Corey's friend, Amy, was in charge of setting up the room so they could compete in the races of the day. The SUP competition kicked off at noon with only the bravest of paddler's. The frigid air and rough current may have deterred some guests from joining in but there were still 6 true SUP competitors. They started off fighting the current, battled up the Cape Fear River, which would later turn into a 4 mile trek. Let's just say the way back was a lot easier!
Mid-day we took a break and everyone got ready for the wedding ceremony that took place on the riverfront deck at 5:00pm. April and Corey provided their own white wedding arbor and placed the ceremony facing the water to take advantage of our great view. They arranged seating for 50 guests, while other guests stood behind and along the railings. Dana Laymon Photography was there to capture all of the special moments! The ceremony was officiated by a friend and they used a small ipod dock for the ceremony portion of things. The Sun came out right in time for the ceremony so it wasn't too chilly out!
Following the ceremony, guest went inside The RiverRoom to enjoy delicious appetizers from Pine Valley Market, tunes from DJ Professionals and a self-serve bar of beer and wine.
The RiverRoom looked beautiful with alternating teal and brown linens. The bride used simple hydrangea centerpieces from Julia's Florist. The DIY vases were created by April. I loved the touches of teal! The Audio Visual People hung the Edison lights from our tall ceiling!
April and Corey choose cupcakes from Coastal Cupcakes so instead of a traditional cake cutting, they fed each other a Bride and Groom cupcake. But no cake tasting is complete without smashing it in the Groom's face! Another epic moment there!
Once the "formalities" were complete, DJ David played an awesome variety of dance tunes to get all of the guests on the dance floor! We only had to stop from drink refills, restroom breaks and the bouquet and garter toss! As the night came to a close, April and Corey chose one last song to end the night - The Macarena! Then, it was a quick cleanup and they were off to enjoy some of Downtown Wilmington's awesome night life.
